In-Person Secondary Summer School

Gilbert Public Schools offers In-Person Summer School for students in grades 7-12.

In-Person Junior High Summer School courses are for credit recovery only, allowing students to retake a course previously failed and required for promotion to the next grade level.

In-Person High School Summer School provides courses for current 8th through 12th-grade students. These courses are primarily for grade replacement, enabling students to retake a previously failed course necessary to fulfill a graduation requirement. Social studies and elective courses may also be taken for first-time credit, creating space for other courses during the regular school year.

For both Junior High and High School In-Person Summer School, the first step for students to enroll is to meet with their school counselor, who will submit a course recommendation.  Families will receive notification of the course request and directions for the next steps within 48 hours of the submission of a new recommendation.

District transportation services will be offered to and from the following locations for a fee of $50 per student, per session: Campo Verde High, Desert Ridge High, Highland High, Mesquite High, Greenfield Junior High, South Valley Junior High, Harris Elementary, Meridian Elementary, and Pioneer Elementary. More information, including the link to sign up for transportation, will be provided to families upon completion of enrollment.

Students attending schools outside of Gilbert Public Schools are also welcome to participate in In-Person Secondary Summer School.

Online Secondary Summer School

Gilbert Public Schools, through GPS Global Academy, offers online summer school courses for students entering grades 7 through 12. GPS Global Academy provides on-level, honors, and credit recovery courses in a six-week session. These courses are self-paced, with teacher feedback and support provided throughout. Several details are important to consider before enrolling in an online summer class. Students must be within the United States to access courses and may plan their schedule to work flexibly during the session. Students may enroll in up to two online courses during the summer. To finish by the end of the term, students should plan to spend a minimum of 2-3 hours a day, 5 days a week, per online course; however, students may work faster to finish sooner. For math courses, students enrolling in both parts should plan to work longer each week in order to be on pace to complete both courses by the end of the session, as the second course will be activated upon completion of the first. Once courses are complete, the student must take the final exam in person at GPS Global Academy or their home high school. All courses will be completed before the beginning of the new school year.
